Ísam was founded on 15 April 1964. The company is owned in full by the company Kristinn Inc. from the Vestmann Islands.
From day one the company has been focused on importing and marketing quality brands in close cooperation with producers and customers.
The decision of Procter & Gamble to award Ísam the exclusive right to import their products in the 90’s was a watershed moment for Ísam. Previously a number of companies had imported products from Procter & Gamble. The cooperation with the company has been a learning experience in the marketing of high quality brands, and has resulted in a unique market share for their products.
In the year 2000 Ísam started investing in local production companies, and bought all shares in Frón. Two years later the company bought Ora, and in 2003 Kexverksmiðjan in Akureyri joined the family of local producers. The biggest step in this direction was taken at the start of the year 2004, when Ísam bought all shares in Myllan-Brauð Inc.
Ísam currently has five different sales departments; Procter & Gamble, food products, food industry and large scale food production, nursing- and research, and sports products. The company runs its own warehouse and distributes products with its own fleet of trucks.
Ísam currently employs 400 staff.
